Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Has 2 Big Hunger Games Hurdles To Overcome
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes faces two major challenges in adapting the novel by Suzanne Collins. The book is a prequel to The Hunger Games and tells the story of a young Coriolanus Snow long before he became president of Panem. The story picks up not too long after the war with the districts and follows Snow as he and his classmates become the first set of mentors for the 10th Hunger Games. Collins deciding to tell Snow’s story was surprising given the Haymitch origin story she teased in Catching Fire, but she didn’t hold back. Instead of giving Snow a sympathetic backstory that justifies his future behavior in some way, she writes him in a sadly realistic tone.
