Darth Maul Paid a Horrifying Price for His Phantom Menace Survival

After being cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi and dumped down a seemingly bottomless shaft, it came as something as a surprise to Star Wars fans when it was revealed Darth Maul survived the ordeal. As his master, Emperor Palpatine once said, the "Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider unnatural," and perhaps nothing exemplifies this more than Maul's survival. Alas, while Palpatine's lessons may have kept Maul's heart beating, it came with a staggeringly high price.
