Star Trek: Insurrection would have been a very different movie had the story's moral dilemma been encountered by Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Captain Benjamin Sisko rather than Star Trek: The Next Generation's Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Insurrection centers on the Ba'ku, a group of peaceful colonists who long ago settled on a planet in Federation space where they are essentially granted eternal life by the planet's unique atmosphere. When Picard learns Starfleet Command plans to remove the colonists and harvest the planet's restorative powers, he disobeys direct orders and departs the Enterprise-E to defend the colonists.
